Tessa Furniture

Born from the inspiration of the sixties hit song “Puppet on a string”, renowned designer Fred Lowen decided to be the master of his own destiny and in the late 1960's opened his own manufacturing company “Twen” with his brother, Howard Lindsey.

In 1970, the business was renamed Tessa after the daughter of a close friend. Since then Tessa has continued to be a leader in design and quality manufacture in Australia. As a Winner of the Dunhill design award in 1970 for the classic T1 model, Fred Lowen Design and Tessa were fast becoming a household name and during that time Tessa Furniture was sold in many countries across Europe.

His innovative and stunning T4 hammock design wowed them at the Cologne fair in 1971 and it is still made today at the Tessa Melbourne factory to the same exacting standards and meets with the same acclaim.

The classic T8 style frame has also stood the test of time. It continues to be made by us in Melbourne in Teak, Vic Ash or Tas Blackwood veneers. Many different cushion styles are available for this timeless frame that Fred developed in 1974.

Tessa has a commitment to quality in design and manufacture of fine furniture. Real local hardwoods and exotic veneers combined with rich and beautiful leathers and fabrics mean that you will cherish your Tessa furniture for many years to come.

Avoiding Mistakes when Buying a Power Lift Chair Recliner Tips

What can be more frustrating than not being able to get up from a chair? When you sat down, you likely thought you would be able to get up without much problem -- but you're stuck! I can read your mind right now: "I'll never sit in this chair again"!

As if pain and other symptoms associated with arthritis weren't enough, arthritis patients have to watch where they sit! There is a very practical solution -- a lift chair. They are impossible to distinguish from regular recliners.

Lift chairs come with a remote and a motorized mechanism that allows the chair to recline or lift.

A lift chair gets you back into the living room with your family and allows you to be comfortable in a chair while you enjoy their company.

People with arthritis and limited mobility can have much difficulty getting up from a chair. Specially designed power lift chairs solve the problem.

Number of Positions

The most important feature to consider. When looking at chairs, you'll see some are '1 Motor',2 Motor 'and 3 Motors, and some 'Infinite Positions'.

Infinite position models have two motors ore 3 motors to let the footrest move independent of the back portion. Those who want to sit upright, but also have the footrest up, will need this type of chair.

Some chairs require the backrest to recline to have the footrest slide out because they only have a single motor.

Just like any recliner, you want the chair to fit your body size.

This is very important because the larger the chair, the deeper the seat cushion. Choose a chair that's too big and your legs may not touch the floor when sitting straight up. Choose a model that's too small and your lower back area might not respond well.

Type of Covering Do you sweat a lot? Leather may not be the best choice. Is incontinence a problem? Perhaps material made of cloth does not make sense in this case. In most cases, leather will cost more, but do not discount its benefits.

Advanced Features Higher end models provide features such as heated seats, lift speed variations, vibrating seats and cup holders. While these may seem unnecessary, people with aches and pains could find them very soothing and worth the higher price tag.

Living Area Do you have a fairly tight area in your living room to place the chair? Does it need to be against a wall? Models are available that can start against a wall and slide open forward without banging into the wall behind it. Standard models both slide out and backwards, which may be a problem in tight areas.
